Educating one person can change a life. Educating many can change the world.
It’s back-to-school time again! This year the Butler Foundation will proudly support 73 Butler Scholars on their path to high school diplomas and college degrees. Donations from Corporex and Commonwealth Hotels help fund the Butler Scholar program, which offers need-based tuition assistance to Northern Kentucky students selected by the schools we support. Butler Scholars qualify based on financial need and defined character strengths such as:
- strong work ethic
- proven ability to overcome hardship
- leadership potential, and
- demonstrated contributions to the community.
Awards range from $2,500 to $7,000 with an average award of just over $5,000 per student.
Donations from Corporex and Commonwealth Hotels help fund the Butler Scholar program, which offers need-based tuition assistance to Northern Kentuckians. School counselors and administrators recommend Butler Scholars based on financial need and defined character strengths such as:
- strong work ethic
- proven ability to overcome hardship
- leadership potential, and
- demonstrated contributions to the community.
Once a student is selected as a Butler Scholar the award renews every year until graduation, as long as the student maintains good grades. Renewable awards send the message that we believe in these young men and women, and we’re invested in their long-term success. To underscore that commitment – and incentivize them to apply to college – our high school Butler Scholars receive first consideration for awards at the colleges and universities in the program. In the last 15 years the Butler Foundation has invested over $3.5 million in high school and college scholarships, and another $650,000 in River Cities’ elementary education through the Alliance of Catholic Urban Education (ACUE). Moving forward, we are exploring opportunities to increase impact in urban core public schools through Educate NKY and other focused initiatives. Stay tuned for more!
