Congratulations to the Notre Dame Urban Education Center (NDUEC) for meeting the Butler Foundation’s challenge match this summer! The community stepped up to dollar-for-dollar, increasing NDUEC’s 2025 fundraising effort by a total of $100,000. Proceeds will go directly to the Center’s ongoing operations.
Operated in Covington by the Sisters of Notre Dame, NDUEC’s three educational programs are moving the needle for children from pre-K through elementary school.
- Early Learning offers small group instruction, independent play, and group activities for children pre-school children ages 4+. In May 2024, all eight of of NDUEC’s “early learners” were assessed as kindergarten ready – including two English-language learners.
- Summer Academics provides elementary students one-on-one help with math and language arts during the month of June. Last summer, 86% of the 27 students in this program avoided the “summer slide” and actually improved proficiency in Math and English.
- Homework Plus serves a diverse group of students from a dozen public, private, and home school settings, offering after-school tutoring customized to each student’s needs. In the 2023-24 academic year, 84% of student participants showed academic improvement.
NDUEC also offers “Family Night” activities to engage parents and caregivers in their children’s academic success.
Since the NDUEC first opened its doors in 2010, the Butler Foundation has proudly supported its efforts, with grants totaling nearly $250,000 to date.
